Dixie Chicks

Folks,

get out there and buy the Dixie chicks new album to support them for having the guts to speak their minds when it was not in the best interests of their careers. Since then a lot of crap has been printed and said about them for being anti-american. Which you all know is a pile of garbage. The main tenant of democracy is the right to dissent and dissent is a difference in opinion. They stood up and said they did not agree and were ashamed they were from the same state as the president. Boo hoo don't hold a man upto a unrealistic set of standards. If the guy is wrong say he is wrong. Doesn't matter who he is or what office he holds. The country and the ideals are much stronger than a few words spoken. This should have been taking in the context is was given. A heat of the moment event.

So lets get out there and buy this album its very good. Listen to the music don't make up your mind because you think you have been slighted having differing opinions is what makes free countries free.

David Blaine Almost Drowned Alive

David Blaine failed to break the world breath holding record after being submerged for a week in a fish bowl outside of New York City's Lincoln Center. After holding his breath for 7 Minutes and 8 seconds he blacked out in the tank and had to be pulled out by his crew.

The stunt was doomed from the beginning when Blaine and his team failed to take into account the effects on his body of being submerged for 7 days in salt water. The salt water took a heavy toll on the skin on his hands. Blaine also suffered from mild kidney failure beginning in the second day.

These factors worked against his attempt to hold his breath for 9 minutes which is a feat in of itself and requires the person to be in peak condition not weak after 7 days in a tank being fed through a tube.

It is still good to see these types of stunts though I think they have moved beyond magic and have entered the realm of mind over body and extreme physical endurance.

Broken Flowers

Forewarning: I am tired and I am at work, forgive me if it lacks something, if not everything.

Starring: Bill Murray, Jeffrey Wright, Sharon Stone
Director: Jim Jarmusch

Synopsis: A story of an aging Don Juan who hits the road on a revealing and humourous cross-country journey. When a mysterious pink letter informs Don Johnston (Murray) that he may have a 19-year-old son, he visits four former lovers, where he comes face to face with the errors of his past and the possibilities of the future.

Review:

Let me start this off by saying that I loved Lost in Translation, which also starred Bill Murray, and I loved Coffee and Cigarettes, which was also directed by Jim Jarmusch.

But...I keep struggling, even after several viewings, to wrap my mind around what makes this movie so great.

Lost in Translation had a wonderful and unique chemistry between two characters, that were both so far out of their element that you loved it when they bonded, and were so accepting of their platonic relationship in a time and age where every on-screen couple has to be sexual involved, and romantically-linked. It was the peak of wonderful storytelling.
